A devastating accident claimed one life and left several others injured on Tuesday when a container-laden truck toppled and fell onto a commercial tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, at the bustling Takie area of Ogbomoso.
The tragic incident resulted in the death of the tricycle rider, while other occupants and nearby passers-by sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitness accounts and a report by newsmen revealed that rescue efforts were hampered by the weight of the container, taking emergency responders nearly an hour to lift it off the crushed vehicle.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Ruth Alo, speaking through Ogbomoso Unit Commander Kayode Adewumi, attributed the crash to brake failure on the truck. She urged road users to remain vigilant and exercise patience, particularly on highways.
“The injured victims have been transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased has been deposited at the morgue,” the Sector Commander stated.
In response to the tragedy, Mr. Alade Adejumo, Deputy Chairman of the Ogbomoso Park Management Committee, appealed to the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway.
He lamented the frequent loss of life and property on the old road, emphasizing that timely intervention could prevent further occurrences of such disasters.
