The Executive chairman Saki west local Government, Engr. Sarafadeen Omirinde has commended the Saki United football club for being the winner of the 2022 Oyo AITEO cup.
This was contained in a released by the council information officer Mr. Aderogba Dauda posted on his Facebook page.
It reads “To lift the trophy for the first time in the history of the town,Saki United defeated Housing Football Club,Ibadan by 3-2 in the final watched by mammoth crowd .
With this victory, the clubside will represent Oyo State in the national Aiteo Cup scheduled to commence at yet to be given date across the country.
Also,the runners up will join the champion to represent the state.
Saki United, it would be recalled defeated 3SC 5-4 via penalty in the semi final match after the 90minutes ended 2-2 to book a place in the final.
Reacting to the victory, Chairman,Saki West Local Government, Engr Sharafadeen Ahmed Omirinde who had earlier urged the team to go for outright victory hailed the players determination and perseverance.
According to him, “With this victory you have demonstrated the zeal and quest for honour in you and you have also written your names in history book not only in the state but in the country at large.
The victory has shown to the world that your victory over 3SC in the semi final was not a fluke but a deserved victory and crowing it by lifting the trophy ,I want to commend your effort. The whole of Saki and its environs are proud of you”, he said.
Speaking after the match, Coach Iwalewa Kazeem expressed his happiness dedicating the victory to God and hard working. He also commended the players for making Saki proud.
