The Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin has provided all the needed details on the 76.67km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road which was flagged-off on Wednesday by the Executive Governors of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde and Abdulrazaq Abdulrahaman of Kwara State.
Sangodoyin who have now served at three different ministries in the last three years while delivering his welcome address said the road would gulp the total sum of N43.625 billion.
In his words the commissioner said “I am delighted to welcome you all to the flag-off ceremony of the Construction of Iseyin- Fapote-Ogbomoso Road Project. This vital road will complete another triangle between the newly completed Ibadan – Moniya – Iseyin Road, the on-going reconstruction of Oyo-Iseyin Road and the on-going Federal A1 Oyo-Ogbomoso Road Projects.
“The need for the construction of this road is borne out of His Excellency’s commitment to improve socio-economic activities of the citizenry thereby expanding the economy of the State by implicitly tapping into our vast natural endowments of arable land and the healthy teaming youth resources by prioritizing on Agriculture & Food Security, which is then underpinned by Infrastructure Development supporting Ease of Doing Agri-business & Youth Empowerment.
He furthered say “By improving the flow of agricultural goods, services and people across the Farm to Market corridors, improved access to individual farms, minor or mini agro-industries and access to the Lautech College of Agriculture Iseyin, the livelihood of citizens are transformed and even more nested economic activities.
Speaking on the duration and cost of the project he went ahead to explain that:
“For timely delivery coupled with the opportunity presented by the advent of the dry season, the entire work scope was split into two (2) concurrent lots on 6th December 2021 for feasible delivery within 13 months:
“Lot 1 which is 38.10km starting from Iseyin – Apewo Village Junction and was awarded to M/S Kopek Construction Limited at a sum of N20,134,794,365.57
Lot 2 which is 38.57km starting from Ogbomoso via Fapote to Apewo Village Junction was awarded to M/S Craneburg Construction Company Limited at a sum of Twenty-Three billion, Four Hundred and Ninety million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Six thousand, One Hundred and Ten Naira and Seventy-Seven Kobo (N 23,490,676,110.77).
“Total costs of N43.625 billion for 76:67 km of new road at 0.57 bin N/km is within the prevailing benchmarks for new single carriage roads which range from (0.5-0.75) b N/km depending on level of additional civil structural works to be carried on corresponding to the terrain traversed.
”The works to be executed on this road includes bush clearing, earthwork provision of reinforced concrete line drains, culverts, retaining walls, supply of stone blast materials, asphaltic concrete binder and wearing course. In addition to all these major components of road construction works, the project also comprises of two (2) Bridge works of 60m span and 45m span on River Ogun and Odo-Oba respectively with a underpass interchange at the end of the road where it links the on-going A1 (route Federal Oyo-Ogbomoso Road Project.
He then expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his unrelenting effort at improving the life of the People of Oyo State.
“At this juncture, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of the Pacesetter State, the people’s Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his vision and commitment to the realization of the Construction of Iseyin-Fapote Ogbomoso Project.”
