The campaign organisation of Arc. Bashiru Aremu Lawal, popularly known as BASH, has rejected a report allegedly circulated by ITV concerning the candidature of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the House of Representatives, insisting that the report is inaccurate, misleading and capable of generating unnecessary confusion among party members, supporters and the general public.
In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Directorate, Engr. Aderogba Abdbasit, the campaign committee said it had noted the report with serious concern, stressing that its position on the matter remains clear and anchored on what it described as the official records of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The campaign maintained that Arc. Bashiru Aremu Lawal is the authentic candidate of the ADC for the House of Representatives, arguing that his name appears on the official candidate list published on the INEC portal.
According to the campaign committee, the presence of Lawal’s name on the candidate list constitutes the basis for its position and should serve as the authoritative reference point in determining the party’s candidate for the election. It therefore appealed to members of the public, ADC supporters, party faithful and other stakeholders to disregard any report or information that contradicts the candidate details officially published by INEC.
They also called on media organisations and journalists covering political and electoral affairs to exercise greater diligence and responsibility in the verification of information before publication. It urged media practitioners to rely on official and authoritative sources, particularly records provided by the electoral umpire, in order to prevent the spread of information that could cause confusion or misunderstanding among voters and political stakeholders.
While reacting to the controversy, they reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, democratic principles and peaceful political engagement. It expressed confidence in the integrity of the electoral process, maintaining that official records maintained by INEC should remain the primary point of reference on issues relating to candidates and nominations.
The campaign committee further appreciated its supporters for their continued confidence and support, assuring them that the campaign remains focused, united and committed to its political objectives and the provision of what it described as purposeful representation
The development comes amid the campaign’s effort to clarify its position on the ADC’s House of Representatives candidature and to urge stakeholders to rely on verified official information in matters concerning the electoral process.
