Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun, Member representing Atisbo, Saki East and Saki West Federal Constituency and also the Chairman House Committee on Aviation Technology has demonstrated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector and advancing critical national development objectives as he actively participated in plenary proceedings at the Green Chamber on Tuesday, presenting two significant committee reports on behalf of the House Committee on Aviation Technology.
The lawmaker, who serves as a Chairman of the committee, formally laid before the House reports on two strategic legislative proposals aimed at enhancing aviation governance, improving meteorological services, and expanding aviation and aerospace education in Nigeria.
The first report presented by Hon. Kareem Abisodun concerned a Bill for an Act to Amend the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Act No. 29 of 2022 and for Related Matters (HB. 2109). While presenting the committee’s findings and recommendations, he urged members of the House to carefully consider and approve the proposed amendments, emphasizing the importance of a robust legal framework for the nation’s meteorological agency.
The proposed amendment seeks to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, improve service delivery, and ensure that the agency remains responsive to evolving technological developments and international best practices in weather forecasting and climate monitoring. Stakeholders in the aviation industry have long recognized the critical role of accurate meteorological information in ensuring flight safety, operational efficiency, and disaster preparedness.
In a separate presentation during the plenary session, Hon. Kareem Abisodun also submitted the report on a Bill for an Act to Establish the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja, to Provide for the Administration and Discipline of Students of the University and for Related Matters (HB. 745).
While presenting the committee’s recommendations, the lawmaker called on the House to approve the report, noting the strategic importance of the proposed institution in addressing the growing demand for highly skilled aviation and aerospace professionals across Nigeria, Africa, and the global aviation industry.
The establishment of the African Aviation and Aerospace University is expected to position Nigeria as a leading hub for specialized aviation and aerospace education on the continent. The institution is envisioned to provide world-class training, research opportunities, and professional development programmes capable of producing a new generation of experts equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities within the rapidly evolving aviation and aerospace sectors.
His contributions during the plenary align with broader efforts by the House Committee on Aviation Technology to strengthen institutional frameworks within the aviation industry, enhance regulatory efficiency, improve safety standards, and foster educational excellence in specialized fields critical to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
