These killings must end, enough is enough – Aṣojú Ọdọ, Alawode Rahmon Akintunde
The socio-cultural Youths Leaders and elders under the aegis of the Coalition of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups in the South-West on Monday staged and start a 3-days peaceful protest against killings, kidnappings, rape and destruction of property in the South-West.
The protesters took off at the ancient Mapo and marched through Bere, Oje, Alliiwo Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Bus Stop and Government House among other places in Ibadan.
The protesters were joined by many other residents after they heard their message against insecurity in the region.
They said the Killings that just happened during a Sunday service in a church in Owo, Ondo State was an affront on the Yoruba race. They said similar killings and maiming had happened in many parts of Yorubaland and must stop.
The Secretary General, Coalition of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Chief Steve Abioye, while addressing residents at Oje said Yoruba people should wake up and protect themselves from being slaughtered daily by bandits.
He said, ” Our people should wake up, they are being killed everyday. Yorubaland has never been conquered and that is why we are calling on our people to defend themselves.”
The Coordinator of the peaceful protest, Comrade Johnson Ajilore, while addressing the people said Yorubaland had been under siege and the people had determine never to allow themselves to be killed any longer.
He said, “People went to church to worship and some terrorists went there and killed them, it happened in Igangan, they have killed many and kidnapped them in other towns and villages in the South-West.
” Is this how we are going to continue living in fear in our land? Our people must rise up and the time is now .”
One of the elderly persons among the protesters Dr Alabi Arogunmasa, 75, said the youths and the elderly ones must be prepared to defend themselves and their land.
A leader of the socio-cultural Yoruba Youths Group in Oyo State, Aṣojú Ọdọ Alawode Rahmon who speaks to our reporter Immediately after the Monday’s protest, said the Yoruba people could no longer fold their arms and allow their people to be killed. He called on the Yoruba people to be united at this time to protect their territory.
“I call on all the people of Yoruba race at this time to be united. The time has come to end this killing. These killings must end, enough is enough!” Aṣojú Ọdọ Alawode said.
