Over 400 farmers in Saki West have benefited from the eighth edition of the agricultural empowerment initiative of Hon. Salaudeen Kabeer Adebayo, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly, Saki West Constituency, as part of efforts to strengthen food production and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The latest intervention, held during the current farming season, further reinforces Hon. Kabeer’s longstanding commitment to agriculture, youth empowerment and grassroots development.
Speaking at the programme, Hon. Salaudeen Kabeer Adebayo explained that the initiative was driven by his concern for the welfare of farmers and the need to support those at the heart of food production, rather than by political or campaign considerations.
According to him, the objective is to reduce the burden on farmers, provide access to relevant agricultural inputs and tools, increase productivity and ultimately contribute to food security and food surplus in Saki West and beyond.
He stressed the need for greater collaboration among government, development organisations, private-sector stakeholders, community leaders and farmers, noting that sustainable food production requires collective action.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely, particularly at a period when farmers are confronted with increasing production costs and other challenges.
One of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Mikail Adesina, described Hon. Kabeer as a longstanding and resourceful supporter of farmers, youths, students, women and other members of the community. He particularly highlighted the role of Hope Never Dies (HND), through which Hon. Kabeer has implemented several empowerment and humanitarian initiatives.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Muideen Osasolo, commended the provision of modern farm tools and improved seedlings, saying the intervention had made farming easier and more productive. He urged beneficiaries to put the materials to productive use rather than selling them, while encouraging residents of Saki West to make informed choices during elections.
A beneficiary from the seventh edition of the programme also shared a remarkable testimony, explaining that the seeds he received performed successfully within a month and some weeks. According to him, the harvest provided sufficient food for his family, including maize used to prepare tuwo, while the surplus enabled him to generate more than ₦50,000 in income from sales.
The testimony underscored the potential impact of providing farmers with quality agricultural inputs and practical support, particularly when such interventions are properly utilised.
The programme attracted a broad representation of stakeholders, including the APM Chairman, Leader of the Saki West Legislative Arm, Saki West Councillors, Gboro Community Chairman, Baale Agbe, Prince Lawal Adebowale, representatives of Indorama, party faithful, women leaders, youth leaders and other community stakeholders.
The initiative is part of Hon. Kabeer’s broader grassroots engagement, which has consistently placed agriculture, youth empowerment and community development at the centre of his interventions.
With over 400 farmers benefiting from the latest edition, the programme further highlights the importance of strengthening local agricultural capacity as Saki West continues to harness its potential as one of the important agricultural communities in Oyo State.
