Political tension has intensified in Oyo State as Gbenga Oyekola, Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, firmly denied any involvement in an alleged plot surrounding the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a public statement that has since stirred reactions across political circles, Oyekola maintained that he was never part of any meeting where such discussions were held.The controversy follows reports suggesting that influential figures, including Oba Rasheed Ladoja Olubadan of Ibadan land, Adebayo Adelabu Minister of power, and the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s Wife, Ambassador Florence Ajimobi, were allegedly involved in consultations aimed at strategizing the impeachment of the governor.
The claims have heightened speculation of internal political maneuvering and possible realignments within the state.Oyekola, however, distanced himself completely from the alleged move, describing the reports as unfounded and politically motivated.
He stressed that he was neither invited to nor consulted on any matter relating to impeachment, adding that linking his name to such claims was an attempt to create division and erode public trust.
Reaffirming his loyalty, the lawmaker declared his unwavering support for Governor Makinde and his administration, emphasizing his commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and democratic stability in Oyo State.
