Fresh controversy has erupted in Oyo State politics following a social media outburst by Shola Ladoja, son of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who accused the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, of selfish political ambition and alleged manipulation of party leaders.
Shola Ladoja made the allegation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he claimed he personally introduced the Speaker to his father at the Speaker’s request. He further alleged that the Speaker had used another political leader as a tool in pursuit of his governorship ambition.
“I was the one who took Debo Ogundoyin to Kabiyesi (my father) because he begged me to. Dear Chief Whip, you have just been used as a tool by a coward and liar,” he wrote.
He also threatened to release what he described as “receipts” if the Speaker failed to “do the right thing,” while accusing him of acting out of selfish ambition to become governor.
The development came amid another political twist after Oyekola publicly denied reports linking him to any impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde. According to a separate report, Oyekola stated that he was never part of any meeting allegedly held to discuss impeachment moves against the governor.
The twin developments have fueled fresh discussions over the growing political tension in Oyo State, particularly as permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship race begin to gather momentum.
Political observers say the public disagreement among key figures reflects deeper cracks within the state’s political structure, especially within camps positioning for future leadership contests.
As of the time of filing this report, Speaker Debo Ogundoyin had not issued any official response to the allegations made by Shola Ladoja.
