The National Union of Saki Students National Headquarters (NUSSNHQ) has expressed profound grief over the tragic road accident that claimed the life of a student and left two others seriously injured along the Sharon Rose College axis in Saki, Oyo State. Describing the incident as a “Black Thursday” in the history of the town, the student body called for immediate justice, accountability, and stronger road safety enforcement to prevent similar occurrences.
In an emergency press release issued on Thursday by the Office of the National President and signed by Comrade Adebayo Qowiyu Taiwo, the union stated that the fatal crash involved a bullion van conveying cash to banks within Saki. According to the statement, officially confirmed facts indicated that the driver of the bullion van drove recklessly, resulting in the accident that claimed the life of one promising student while leaving two other students with serious injuries. The union noted that the tragedy has plunged the entire Saki student community into mourning, with prayers continuing for the speedy recovery of the injured students currently receiving medical treatment.
Condemning the circumstances surrounding the incident, NUSSNHQ described the accident as both heartbreaking and avoidable, stressing that no official assignment, including the transportation of cash or other valuables, should ever take precedence over the sanctity of human life. The union maintained that drivers entrusted with sensitive responsibilities must uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and adherence to traffic regulations, emphasizing that the protection of money must never come at the expense of innocent lives.
While commending the prompt response of relevant security agencies to the unfortunate incident, the union urged law enforcement authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation and ensure that every individual found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law. It insisted that justice must not only be done but must be visibly served for the deceased student, the injured victims, and everyone affected by the tragic event.
The student body further appealed to the Oyo State Government, the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, transport unions, community stakeholders, and all well-meaning Nigerians to treat the incident with the seriousness it deserves. According to the union, concrete and sustainable measures must be implemented to strengthen road safety enforcement, improve compliance with traffic regulations, and prevent future tragedies on roads across Saki and other communities.
Extending its deepest condolences to the family, classmates, friends, and loved ones of the deceased student, NUSSNHQ described the loss as a painful blow not only to the immediate family but also to the entire student community. The union also offered prayers for the swift and complete recovery of the two injured students, asking Almighty God to comfort the bereaved family with strength and courage while granting the injured victims healing and restoration.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the welfare of students, the union declared that it remains united in mourning the deceased, united in demanding accountability from those responsible, and united in advocating safer roads for every citizen. It stressed that although one promising future has been tragically cut short and two others have been left battling the consequences of the accident, the determination of the student community to pursue justice and campaign against reckless driving will remain steadfast.
The statement concluded with a passionate appeal to motorists, transport operators, government authorities, and all road users to prioritize safety at all times, emphasizing that every life is valuable and that avoidable road crashes must no longer be tolerated.
