The Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Ọba AbdulRosheed Adéwálé Akanbi, on Friday led over 50 traditional rulers to the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road, held at Aje International Market, Osogbo.
The flag-off was led by the Minister of Works, David Umahi. Also in attendance was the former Governor of Osun State and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Speaking at the event, Oba Akanbi expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the long-awaited reconstruction of the strategic road, describing the project as a major facelift for the Osun West Senatorial District.
The monarch recalled the deplorable condition of the road at the time he ascended the throne, noting that both private and commercial motorists were often forced to divert through the Ogbaagbaa route, a detour that stretched what should have been a 50-minute journey into more than two hours.
According to the Oluwo, the poor state of the road had compelled him to personally supervise rehabilitation efforts on it, spending hours daily grading bushy sections and patching failed portions with cement to keep it passable for road users.
He expressed delight that the Federal Government had now approved a full reconstruction of the road using concrete pavement, describing the intervention as a landmark development that would ease transportation, boost economic activities, and improve the living conditions of residents across the region.
Oluwo also reaffirmed the support of traditional rulers in the district for President Tinubu, pledging their continued commitment to his administration and expressing confidence in his leadership as the President eyes a second term in office in 2027.
