…..As Adamawa goes against the governor’s directives to satisfy his power thirst.
The preparation for the 2023 general election is unravelling in many folds across the party lines and different vanguards. Every political movement is prone to crisis, and here in Saki West, Saki East, and ATISBO Federal Constituency, the People’s Democratic Party has no difference as the cloud of the real candidate to flag the party in 2023 is unclear to the participants, with sections of the participants drumming support for Hon. Lukman Adamawa (the serving Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde on political matters) and other folds of the two leading candidates who are solidly behind Barr. Sarafadeen Onijo (a legal solicitor for Saki West local government) are claiming to clinch the ticket.
The sketchy nature of the fundamental issue in PDP made Korrectnews dig deep and uncover the truth behind the matter.
How it started
The PDP house of representatives ticket attracted several contestants across different vanguards of the party. It was learnt that the party boasted of up to 10 candidates at Ifedapo federal constituency and, with several dialogues and conflict resolution within the party by stakeholders, the number was reduced to two candidates, who are Hon. Lukman Adamawa and Barr. Sarafadeen Onijo.
In a bid to settle the crisis, Gov. Seyi Makinde called a stakeholders meeting and advised the party to adopt consensus in choosing the flag bearer and said that governance and political participation should be inclusive and not segregated to a section of the party “Eni ti o n je Eko ati Akara lowo o gbodo soju kokoro Amala” (Greediness should not be welcome in a democratic setting).
After the meeting, the critical Saki stakeholders which includes gate keepers, heavy weight opinion moulders, traditional council met and reached an agreement on flying Barr. Lateef Sarafadeen Abiola as the candidate of the party, but Adamawa refused to accept the party choice with the believe that the Oracle has not spoken ( Senator Hosea Agboola).
The Real Issue and clear picture of the atmosphere
On April 15th, 2022, Gov. Seyi Makinde visited a Saki-born political icon, lover of Makinde Administration , stakeholder and elder stateman, Chief. Michael Koleosho, in Ibadan, who happens to be a father figure in the party, and requested for his opinion about the two candidates. Chief Koleosho pondered less by giving his support to the candidate that other stakeholders supported, which is Barr.Lateef Sarafadeen Onijo.
Afterward, Gov. Makinde approved the will of the stakeholders and consulted with party to give the form to Barr. Onijo as the flag bearer of the party, where the picture was circulated online.
Having noted the decision of the party and not in support of it, Hon. Adamawa went ahead to pose with a nomination form at the PDP Secretariat in Abuja, though it’s his right as a member of the party but in other way round it is a way of going against the party stakeholders. His actions have been described as declaring war against his boss the Executive Governor of the state and his god father Senator Hosea Halleluyah.
Makinde Balance Equation Without Subjugation.
Hon. Adamawa was known as a strong political resident and a key figure in the Hon. Hosea Ayoola Halleluyah camp, which benefited nearly 90% of the political appointments and elective positions under Seyi Makinde’s government in Oyo North.
In making sure all the parties are well compensated, the Oyo North Senatorial district ticket was allotted to Sen. Halleluyah, and he single-handedly gave the ticket to Hon. Akinwale Akinwole (Wolekanle) without consulting any stakeholders from the 13 local governments that make up the district, and other elders did not question his action in respect of the Governor.
And on the other hand, the Ifedapo federal constituency ticket is for the party stakeholders, and the party stakeholders have banked on Barr. Onijo, who shows a balance of equations from Gov. Seyi Makinde.
One of the stakeholders in Ifedapo federal constituency and former minority leader Oyo state house of assembly Hon. Rafiu Adekunle made it known that “It is important to set the record straight that nobody is a loser in this settings and everyone is fighting for the party’s interest and constituency interest, Barr. Sarafadeen Onijo has been chosen based on consensus to lead the party, and other aspirants should join him and the party to work in harmony to deliver him in the poll as well as work tirelessly to make sure PDP wins in all the positions contested for” he concluded .
