The Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Cooperatives and also a prominent political figure in Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Niyi Adebisi Olabode has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling another notable development in the evolving political landscape ahead of future political engagements in the state.

The resignation was conveyed in an official letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 2, Saki West Local Government, Oyo State. In the letter, Hon. Niyi stated that his resignation takes immediate effect from the same date.

Titled “Letter of Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the document revealed that the decision was reached after what he described as “careful consideration and wide consultations,” an indication that the move may have followed extensive political engagements and strategic deliberations with associates and stakeholders within and outside the party structure.

In the strongly worded but diplomatic resignation letter, Hon. Olabode expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership and members across the ward, local government, and state levels for the support and cooperation extended to him during his time in the party. He also acknowledged the opportunities, relationships, and experiences he gained throughout his membership and political association with the PDP.

“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 2, Saki West Local Government, with effect from 30th April, 2026.”

“This decision was reached after careful consideration and wide consultations. I appreciate the opportunities, relationships, and experiences gained during my membership in the party.”

Hon. Niyi also emphasized his appreciation to the party’s leadership structure at all levels, thanking members for their cooperation and support throughout his period of service and association with the PDP.

The resignation has also stirred reactions among party faithful and political stakeholders, many of whom view Hon. Olabode as an influential grassroots mobilizer with notable political relevance in his constituency. His departure from the PDP is expected to generate discussions regarding possible shifts in alliances and political calculations in the area.

Copies of the resignation letter were also forwarded to the Chairman of the PDP in Saki West Local Government and the party leadership in Oyo State, indicating that the resignation followed official procedures and was formally communicated to the necessary authorities.

The development comes at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying across Oyo State, with several politicians reassessing their affiliations, consolidating alliances, and preparing for emerging opportunities within the state’s political environment.
