President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded Romuald Wadagni, Benin Republic’s president-elect, describing his landslide achievement as a testament to the trust the Beninese people have placed in him as their new leader.
Wadagni, the country’s Minister of Finance, secured about 94% of the vote in the April 12 presidential election.
In a congratulatory letter to Wadagni, Tinubu stated: “Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance.”
Tinubu noted that Nigeria and Benin “share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation,” adding that he looked forward to working closely with Wadagni’s administration to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance regional security, and promote economic prosperity within ECOWAS and the African Union.
He commended Benin’s government and people for conducting a peaceful election, praising their resilience and commitment to democracy.
Tinubu wished “His Excellency and Dear Brother” great wisdom, fortitude, and success as Benin’s next president, assuring unstinting Nigerian support and cooperation.
