Hon. Raheem Oyedemi Muslim, popularly known as Baba Mosio and who is a member of All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared his intention to support his brother, Dr. Yisa Yusuff Oyedemi Muslim, popularly known as Dr. Y. Y. Muslim, in his bid to represent the Oyo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the Accord Party.
Oyedemi, while speaking with a Korrectnews Correspondent during an interview at his office in Saki, said his decision was borne out of brotherhood, personal conviction and his belief in the capacity of the Accord Party candidate to contribute meaningfully to the development of the senatorial district.
He however made it clear that his support for Dr. Yisa Yusuff Oyedemi Muslim should not be interpreted as a denial of his membership of the ruling party, stressing that he remains a bona fide member of the APC.
“I am a bona fide APC member, but I will support my brother, Dr. Yisa Yusuff Oyedemi Muslim, contesting for Senate on the platform of the Accord Party,” he stated.
According to him, political affiliation should not completely overshadow personal relationships, brotherhood and the freedom of individuals to make choices based on their convictions.
He maintained that his decision was primarily motivated by his relationship with the senatorial aspirant and his confidence in his personality, competence and ability to represent the interests of the people.
Oyedemi said the forthcoming senatorial contest should not be viewed merely through the prism of political parties, but should also provide an opportunity for voters to assess the antecedents, character, competence and programmes of the various candidates seeking their mandate.
He urged political actors and supporters across party lines to conduct their campaigns responsibly, warning against politics of bitterness, personal attacks and actions capable of creating unnecessary divisions among people who have lived together as brothers and neighbours.
Oyedemi further emphasised the importance of maintaining peaceful relationships despite political differences, noting that political contests are temporary while relationships within communities endure beyond election periods.
