The Native Authority of Ago-Aare Community in Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State has ordered the immediate suspension of all commercial activities at the Kraal Market following the abduction of a resident, Mr. Joel Oke, in a move aimed at strengthening security measures and preventing further incidents within the community.
The decision was contained in a joint statement issued on Tuesday by members of the Aare-in-Council alongside key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in Oyo State, represented by Alhaji Idris; the Sarki Fulani/Bororo, Alhaji Abdullah; the Chairman of the Hausa Community, Alhaji Ado; and the Ago-Aare Community Youth Leader, Mr. Emmanuel Olowookere.
According to the statement, the temporary closure of the market was adopted as a precautionary measure to safeguard lives and property while concerted efforts are being intensified to secure the release of the abducted resident. The community leaders stressed that the action became necessary in view of prevailing security concerns and the need to prevent any further threat to public safety.
The authorities expressed deep concern over the kidnapping incident, describing it as unfortunate and contrary to the peaceful values for which Ago-Aare has long been known. They noted that the community remains committed to maintaining law and order while working closely with relevant security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the victim.
In a strong show of solidarity, concerned youths within the community called for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Oke, insisting that he should regain his freedom without harm and without the payment of any ransom. The youths condemned the act and urged those responsible to release the victim forthwith in the interest of peace and humanity.
The statement further appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding during the period, assuring them that coordinated efforts involving community leaders, security operatives and other stakeholders are ongoing to secure the victim’s release and restore normalcy to the area. Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue operations.
Reaffirming the community’s longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence, the leaders emphasized that Ago-Are has historically enjoyed harmonious relationships among its diverse ethnic and social groups. They stated that the current challenge would not be allowed to undermine the unity, peace and mutual understanding that have defined the community over the years.
The leadership of the Miyetti Allah Association and members of the Fulani community in the area also threw their weight behind the temporary closure of the Kraal Market, pledging their full cooperation with the Native Authority and other stakeholders until the victim is safely returned. They reiterated their commitment to supporting all lawful efforts aimed at enhancing security and preserving peace within the community.
The leaders concluded by calling on all residents, community groups and stakeholders to unite behind ongoing initiatives geared toward securing Mr. Oke’s safe release and sustaining the atmosphere of peace, harmony and security that has long characterized Ago-Are and its environs. The authorities assured the public that further updates would be communicated as developments unfold.
